A sculptural and quietly monumental Carrara marble centrepiece by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, dating from the 1970s. Entirely hand-carved from a single block of marble, the piece reveals all the nuance and sensuality of Mangiarotti’s material language: rigorous, weighty, yet unexpectedly soft in its transitions.
The design plays with texture and geometry. The inner bowl, perfectly smooth and subtly luminous, contrasts with the broad outer band, which has been finely tooled to create a tactile, almost fabric-like surface. This ring then resolves again into a smooth perimeter, emphasising the purity of the form. The marble’s veining is warm and expressive, with smoky greys and honeyed undertones settling into the surface like a natural patina.
The underside still retains a fragment of its original Skipper label — intentionally left untouched as part of its history.
Diameter 30 cm (11.8 in)
Inner bowl diameter 15 cm (5.9 in)
Height/thickness 5 cm (2 in)
Condition: Beautiful vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Some natural inclusions, subtle markings, and tiny edge imperfections consistent with use and the nature of hand-carved Carrara marble. The piece remains fully intact and reads as elegant, authentic, and untouched.
