A refined and sculptural pair of ceramic vases by Bruno Gambone, embodying the artist’s unmistakable balance between restraint and expressive surface. Created in the 1970s, these works reflect a mature phase of Gambone’s production.
Each piece is conceived as a slender vertical volume, rising from a precise rectangular base into a softly tapered cylindrical neck. The proportions are rigorous and architectural, yet subtly animated by the tactile quality of the glaze and the nuanced irregularities of the handmade process.
The surface is finished in a matte, off-white glaze enriched by fine speckling, giving depth and a quiet, mineral presence. Around the shoulder, a horizontal band of layered glazes in earthy tones — deep brown and burnt sienna — flows organically, with delicate drippings that introduce a controlled spontaneity, a signature element in Gambone’s work.
The interiors reveal a soft celadon-toned glaze, adding a subtle chromatic contrast visible from above. Both vases are signed “Gambone Italy” on the base, confirming their authenticity.
A beautifully balanced pair, where geometry and material sensitivity converge into objects of quiet strength and timeless elegance.
