Sculptural and iconic, this “Constantin” side table was designed by Dino Gavina for Studio Simon in 1971 as part of the celebrated Ultramobile collection — a visionary project conceived to transform surrealist art into functional objects for everyday living.

The design pays tribute to the work of Constantin Brancusi, translating his poetic, totemic forms into a refined piece of furniture where art and function coexist seamlessly.

This early production example, dating to the late 1970s, features a beautifully sculpted base in bleached solid oak, carved into a rhythmic, stacked form with soft yet architectural transitions. The grain is particularly expressive, enhanced by a careful restoration that highlights the natural texture and tonal depth of the wood.

The circular top is executed in satin-finished brass, resting on elegant brass spacers that create a subtle visual separation between top and base — a distinctive detail of the model. The underside reveals the original construction system with exposed brass fittings, emphasizing the honest and functional approach typical of Gavina’s philosophy.

Compact in scale yet visually powerful, the table embodies a perfect balance between mass and lightness, geometry and organic form. The interplay between the warm oak and the luminous brass surface gives the piece a timeless, almost monumental presence despite its modest dimensions.
