A large and highly decorative ceramic centerpiece in the form of a stylized seashell, designed by Alberto Smania for Studio Smania in the 1970s.
Elegant and sculptural, the piece is characterized by its dynamic, elongated form, with a beautifully articulated spiral body that tapers into a slender tail. The surface is enriched by a rhythmic sequence of raised ridges, carefully modeled to evoke the natural structure of a marine shell, while the wide, flared opening creates a soft, undulating profile.
The glossy white glaze enhances the purity of the form, catching the light across the curved surfaces and emphasizing the contrast between the textured exterior and the smooth, gently concave interior. Subtle irregularities and variations in the glaze add depth and authenticity, typical of Italian ceramic production of the period.
Impressive in scale, this piece works equally well as a centerpiece, sculptural object, or vase — ideal for dried arrangements or simply as a standalone statement.
The underside bears the original “Studio Smania Interni” mark.
