An exceptionally rare and sculptural pair of door handles designed by Archimede Seguso for Seguso Vetri d’Arte during the 1940s, embodying the poetic balance between Murano glass artistry and refined Italian metalwork.
Entirely handcrafted, each handle is composed of a thick solid Murano glass cylinder in the unmistakable “Verde Nord” tone—a delicate icy green that has become one of Seguso Vetri d’Arte’s most recognizable signatures. The glass is masterfully worked with a deep spiral optic pattern that catches and refracts light from every angle, creating extraordinary reflections and remarkable visual depth. Depending on the surrounding light, the color shifts from pale aquamarine to an ethereal sea-green, giving the impression that the glass is almost alive.
The luminous glass element is elegantly framed by solid brass mounts, now enriched by a beautiful untouched patina accumulated over more than seventy years. Rather than polished away, the brass has been preserved in its authentic state, allowing the warm golden tones to contrast beautifully with the cool transparency of the Murano glass.
A fascinating testament to traditional Venetian craftsmanship is the original mounting technique: each glass element is still secured within the brass structure using plaster (“gesso”), exactly as it left the Seguso workshop in the 1940s. This historic construction method, rarely preserved today, further confirms the authenticity and period manufacture of the pair.
Beyond their functional purpose, these handles possess the presence of small architectural sculptures. Their generous proportions, remarkable weight and exceptional material quality transform an ordinary door into an elegant design statement, equally suited to refined residential interiors, luxury hospitality projects or important restoration works.
The pair remains in very good vintage condition with a rich, honest patina throughout the brass surfaces. One handle presents a tiny superficial imperfection to the glass, visible in the photographs. This minor historical flaw does not affect structural integrity or functionality in any way and instead contributes to the authentic character of the piece, telling the story of more than seven decades of careful use and preservation.
An extraordinarily scarce opportunity to acquire an authentic pair of Murano glass architectural fittings by one of the greatest Venetian glass masters of the twentieth century.
