Pair of Hand-Carved Pavonazzetto Marble Flower Vases, Italy, 1940s

A stunning and rare pair of flower vases carved entirely from Pavonazzetto marble, a richly veined Italian stone admired since Roman times for its luminous contrast of ivory, amber, and inky black veining. Made in Italy in the 1940s, these pieces exemplify a moment in decorative arts when timeless material met modern form.

Entirely hand-sculpted and polished, the vases reveal a profound attention to proportion, surface, and texture. Their slender, cylindrical bodies rest atop gently flared bases.

The surface shows a soft, lived patina that enriches the marble’s character, imbuing it with both warmth and history.
