Pair of hand-sculpted terracotta figures by ceramic artist Saverio Farci, 1960s

A pair of hand-modeled terracotta sculptures by the Sardinian master ceramist Saverio Farci, representing a man and a woman. Each piece is entirely handmade, displaying Farci’s distinctive vocabulary of rustic symbolism, anthropomorphic geometry, and decorative rhythm.

The female figure, holding a bouquet of roses in her crossed arms, wears a robe decorated with a vertical leaf pattern and a collar edged with dotted motifs.
The male figure features an equally elaborate attire, adorned with circular medallions and holding two birds — one perched on his chest and another in his hand. His bearded face, framed by a crown-like headdress and a patterned collar, recalls archaic iconography reinterpreted through a modernist lens.

The matte glaze — a blend of natural ochre, beige, and reddish tones — enhances the sculptural quality and accentuates the intricate handwork. Together, the pair exudes a timeless, almost totemic presence, blending Sardinian folk tradition with mid-century artistic sophistication.
