Pair of Hans-Agne Jakobsson Model V-220 Amber Glass Brass Sconces, 1960s

An elegant and highly decorative pair of wall sconces, Model V-220, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by AB Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s.

These sconces exemplify Jakobsson’s celebrated approach to lighting design, combining restrained Scandinavian modernism with a warm and atmospheric quality of light. Crafted from beautifully patinated brass, the fixtures feature the designer’s characteristic attention to proportion and detail, including the finely perforated decorative band surrounding the lamp holder.

What makes this particular pair especially desirable is the presence of their original hand-blown amber-tinted glass shades. Unlike the more commonly encountered opaline white versions, these softly smoked amber diffusers create a considerably warmer and more intimate light, enhancing the sculptural qualities of the design while casting a rich golden glow onto surrounding surfaces. The subtle variations in tone, thickness, and transparency found within the glass are a testament to the artisanal manufacturing techniques employed during the period and contribute greatly to the individuality and charm of each piece.

The organic bell-shaped shades beautifully diffuse the light source while allowing the textured inner bulb to remain visible, creating a layered visual effect that is both elegant and atmospheric. Whether illuminated or at rest, the contrast between the warm amber glass and the golden brass structure gives the sconces a refined and timeless presence.

As is often the case with Jakobsson’s handcrafted lighting from this era, slight variations between the two sconces can be observed, reflecting the handmade nature of their production rather than any later alteration. Together they form a remarkably harmonious and visually balanced pair.

Presented in excellent vintage condition, with a beautifully aged brass patina and original amber glass shades preserved exceptionally well. The electrical components have been checked and are fully functional.

Equally suited to sophisticated residential interiors, boutique hospitality projects, or collector-focused spaces, these sconces embody the warmth, craftsmanship, and understated elegance that have made Hans-Agne Jakobsson one of the most sought-after figures in Scandinavian lighting design.

A rare opportunity to acquire an increasingly difficult-to-find pair featuring the highly desirable amber glass variant, offering a richer and more atmospheric interpretation of one of Jakobsson’s most enduring designs.

Conditions: Good vintage condition. As with all vintage lighting, professional inspection and rewiring are recommended if required to meet contemporary local electrical standards.
