A refined and visually striking pair of Murano glass vases, designed in the style of Gio Ponti and dating to the 1970s.
The composition is built on a subtle dialogue of proportions: two conical forms of different scale, each gently flaring upward. Together, they create a balanced and dynamic presence—an interplay of height, rhythm, and spacing that feels both architectural and fluid.
Executed in luminous aquamarine glass, both vases are defined by a continuous spiral lattice that wraps around the body with remarkable precision. As clearly visible in the close-up images, the pattern shifts between structure and movement: a layered network of diagonal lines that generates a moiré effect, constantly changing with light and perspective.
The decoration appears embedded within the glass rather than applied, producing a sense of depth and optical vibration. In certain views, the surface reads as highly graphic; in others, it softens into a more atmospheric, almost textile-like presence.
The rims are thin and slightly irregular, revealing the hand-finished quality of the pieces. Toward the base, the tone deepens into a richer blue, visually anchoring each vase and reinforcing the upward flow of the form.
A particularly compelling detail is found in the underside: as documented in the photographs, both bases retain a pronounced swirling pontil mark. This vortex-like trace—created during the detachment from the pontil rod—echoes the spiral rhythm of the decoration itself, linking the gesture of making with the final aesthetic. It stands as both a technical signature and a poetic element, a direct imprint of the hand-blown process.
Light plays a central role throughout. It glides across the curved surfaces, refracts through the internal pattern, and gathers within the glass, giving each vase a luminous, almost liquid presence. There is a constant tension between control and fluidity, precision and softness—qualities that strongly resonate with Gio Ponti’s approach to form and surface.
Perfect as a sculptural pair, yet equally effective when displayed individually.
