Designed by Paolo Buffa and produced in Italy during the 1950s, this exquisite set of six dining chairs represents the height of mid-century Italian cabinetmaking. Celebrated for his ability to fuse classic Milanese elegance with functional modernity, Buffa expresses a masterful sense of fluid motion and sculptural grace in this model. The defining feature is the iconic “wave” motif carved into the three horizontal back slats—a signature element of Buffa’s work that gives the chairs an organic lightness and a dynamic, sophisticated silhouette.

The chairs are sculpted from premium maple wood, boasting remarkably sinuous lines that sweep down into slender, tapered legs. The front legs culminate in elegant brass sabots, acting as striking jewel-like accents that elevate the design and firmly anchor it in the golden era of Italian Mid-Century design.

To bridge historic charm with modern luxury, the chairs have been completely reupholstered. The internal padding was replaced with new high-quality foam to ensure optimal seating comfort. For the upholstery, we selected a luxurious semi-velvet fabric in a deep, poetic navy blue. The rich texture of the velvet shifts beautifully under the light, offering a mesmerizing contrast against the warm tones of the maple frame and the golden gleam of the brass tips.

We intentionally chose a conservative approach for the restoration of the wood. The surface has been gently cleaned and polished, deliberately preserving the magnificent golden patina that the maple wood has developed naturally over the decades. Subtle, honest signs of age and history remain visible across the frames; rather than being flaws, these minor markings are a testament to their authentic mid-century provenance and add a beautiful narrative depth that new furniture could never replicate.

Structurally, the set is in very good vintage condition. The maple frames are perfectly solid and stable, and the brand-new velvet upholstery is pristine and ready for immediate enjoyment.
