Poetic Cut-Glass Glow — Gardella Attrib. Brass Wall Sconce, 1950s

A quietly theatrical wall light, defined by the tension between strict geometry and a soft, refracted glow. The silhouette is resolutely architectural: a rectangular wall plate in black lacquer supports a flat brass arm, from which a black-lacquered cylindrical stem drops with sculptural precision. At the top, a generously proportioned glass shade—finely worked, with vertical cut facets—acts as an optical instrument, catching the filament’s warmth and projecting a rhythmic, “Bauhaus-meets-Milan” chiaroscuro across the wall.

The overall language and construction are strongly consistent with post-war Italian lighting associated with Azucena’s circle, and the piece is attributed to Ignazio Gardella. In particular, the typology relates to Gardella’s documented wall lights for Azucena (notably the LP-series), known for their rigorous brass structures paired with refined glass diffusers.
