An exceptionally rare MB15 sideboard designed by Franco Albini for Poggi and produced in Italy between 1958 and the early 1960s. One of Albini’s most refined storage designs, this first-edition example perfectly embodies his ability to combine architectural rigor with extraordinary cabinetmaking.
Entirely crafted in solid walnut with finely veneered panels, the sideboard is distinguished by its elegant three-door composition, beautifully proportioned frame-and-panel construction, and sculptural recessed pulls seamlessly carved into the solid wood. Every junction, chamfer and miter reflects the remarkable precision that made Poggi one of the finest Italian manufacturers of the post-war period.
The sideboard stands on Albini’s characteristic faceted solid walnut feet, whose geometric silhouette lends the cabinet a visual lightness despite its generous proportions. The warmth of the walnut has developed a magnificent natural patina over more than six decades, revealing a depth of tone and grain that only time can create.
The interior demonstrates the same obsessive attention to detail as the exterior. Adjustable shelving is complemented by elegant suspended pull-out trays, supported by refined solid brass hardware that allows them to appear almost floating within the cabinet. This sophisticated solution reflects Albini’s functional approach, where every element is carefully considered both aesthetically and practically.
Unlike many sideboards of the period, the cabinet has been completely finished on the reverse with the same level of craftsmanship as the front, allowing it to be confidently placed in the center of a room as a true architectural element rather than simply against a wall.
The piece has been professionally restored by our master craftsmen following a conservative approach. The walnut has been carefully revived while preserving its original character and beautiful vintage patina. It remains in very good vintage condition with only light signs of age and use, visible in the photographs, entirely consistent with its history and authenticity.
Highly sought after by collectors, the MB15 represents one of Franco Albini’s purest cabinet designs for Poggi and remains an outstanding example of Italian modernism from the golden age of design.
