A sculptural “Lotus” table lamp designed by Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega, Murano, Italy, and preserved with its original period A.V. Mazzega label.
An iconic composition of layered opalescent glass, the lamp reflects Nason’s refined investigation into volume, transparency, and the diffusion of light. Its design is built through a sequence of concentric glass elements that progressively open outward in soft, rounded tiers, recalling the unfolding petals of a lotus flower.
Each glass section appears to hover gently above the next, creating a strong sense of depth and visual rhythm. Viewed from above, the composition reveals a hypnotic series of concentric rings; seen from the side, it becomes a luminous architectural form, balanced between sculpture and functional lighting.
When illuminated, the opaline glass softens the internal light source into a warm, atmospheric glow. The central bulb becomes a diffused core of light, radiating outward through the milky glass layers and creating a gentle play of translucency, reflection, and shadow.
The dark circular base visually anchors the floating volume of glass, reinforcing the contrast between the solid lower structure and the ethereal, luminous body above.
This example comes from former warehouse stock and is preserved in excellent condition, virtually as new. It retains its original period A.V. Mazzega label and shows no evident signs of use.
Carlo Nason, active on Murano from the 1960s onward, is celebrated for his ability to translate modernist ideas into fluid and highly expressive glass forms. The “Lotus” model is a particularly refined example of late twentieth-century Murano lighting, combining technical precision with a poetic and sculptural approach to illumination.
A highly decorative and increasingly collectible lamp, equally suited to contemporary, modernist, and mid-century interiors.
For immediate use in the United States, FORME provides an adapter. The lamp will function correctly, although the lower US voltage will produce a softer and dimmer light compared to European use.
