An early edition signed pair of Stilnovo wall sconces, Italy, circa 1950s.
Each sconce features a frosted glass shade with a satiny surface, mounted on a brass frame of clean, angular lines. The brass retains its original finish with a rich patina and subtle oxidation, highlighting the authentic vintage character. The frosted glass cones, perfectly proportioned, recall the refined mid-century balance between geometry and function that defined Stilnovo’s design ethos. One of the two glass shades shows slight signs of age on the lower part, as documented in the photos, nothing that detracts from the beauty or integrity of the piece.
This pair is signed on the backplate, confirming its authenticity as a rare early production. The sconces have been sympathetically rewired for contemporary use while preserving all original elements.
Founded in Milan in 1946 by Bruno Gatta, Stilnovo quickly became one of the leading Italian lighting manufacturers, known for its collaborations with designers such as Joe Colombo, Gaetano Sciolari, and Danilo and Corrado Aroldi, shaping the vocabulary of Italian modernism.
