Nicolay Diulgheroff Semi-Matte Black Lacquer Round Coffee Table, Italy 1950s

Striking round coffee table designed by Nicolas Diulgheroff in the 1950s, newly refinished in a sophisticated semi-matte black lacquer that enhances its sculptural and architectural presence.

The table features a circular wooden frame housing a glass top, creating a refined contrast between the lightness of the transparent surface and the bold, graphic character of the dark structure. The semi-matte finish softens reflections while emphasizing the purity of the form and the continuity of the curved elements.

The base is defined by an elegant interplay of bentwood components: four slender, slightly splayed legs support a dynamic system of intersecting stretchers that meet at the center, forming a precise cross-shaped junction. This central intersection becomes a key visual and structural element, showcasing the designer’s mastery in balancing geometry and fluidity.

The black finish highlights the table’s silhouette, bringing forward its modernist spirit while maintaining a timeless and versatile aesthetic. Subtle surface irregularities visible in close-up testify to the handcrafted nature of the piece and its careful restoration.

The glass top sits neatly within the rounded frame, allowing a full view of the sculptural base from above.
