Nicolay Diulgheroff Walnut Round Coffee Table, Italy 1950s

The elegant and sculptural round coffee table designed by Nicolay Diulgheroff in the 1950s, crafted in richly grained walnut and recently restored by our atelier with a traditional shellac (shellac) finish.

The design is defined by its refined balance between structure and fluidity. A circular wooden frame encloses the glass top, creating a soft and continuous perimeter that enhances the transparency of the surface. Beneath, the base reveals a sophisticated interplay of curved and intersecting elements: four gently tapered legs rise with a subtle outward stance, supporting a sinuous cross structure that meets at the center in a precise and architectural joint. This intersection forms a visual focal point, emphasizing both craftsmanship and structural clarity.

The bentwood elements display a warm, luminous patina, with natural variations in the walnut grain highlighted by the glossy shellac finish. Close-up details reveal the quality of the joinery and the organic continuity of the curves, characteristic of Diulgheroff’s approach—where modernist rigor meets a more expressive, almost sculptural sensibility.

The glass top rests neatly within the wooden rim, maintaining a clean profile and allowing full appreciation of the base from above.
