A striking pair of sculptural wall lights designed by Carl Fagerlund for Orrefors in the 1970s, featuring richly textured clear glass shades mounted on brass backplates with beautifully aged surfaces. Elegant, atmospheric and unmistakably Scandinavian, these sconces perfectly express the refined balance between glass, light and metal that defines Fagerlund’s work for Orrefors.
Each light is composed of a thick molded glass diffuser with a highly tactile, organic relief pattern. The surface recalls ice, water, hammered crystal and natural mineral formations, creating a wonderful play of depth and refraction. When illuminated, the glass comes alive with a warm golden glow, casting soft reflections on the wall and revealing the sculptural complexity of the design.
The glass shades are secured by small round brass fixing buttons, a simple but elegant detail that adds rhythm and proportion to the front composition. These rounded brass elements gently contrast with the irregular texture of the glass, giving the pieces a refined architectural presence without interrupting their organic character.
The brass backplates show beautiful natural oxidation and age-related patina. As visible in the photos, the two brass structures have developed different patinas over time: one appears warmer and more golden, while the other shows a deeper, darker and more oxidized surface. This difference is part of their vintage authenticity and gives the pair a particularly charming, lived-in character. The contrast between the clear glass and the aged brass enhances the richness of the materials and underlines the originality of the pieces.
A refined and atmospheric pair of 1970s Swedish wall lights, ideal for adding sculptural texture, warm luminosity and a sophisticated vintage accent to both classic and contemporary interiors.
